These changes only exist on pieces showing the name and symbol of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Essentially, the manji (or Wan as it is known in China) symbol was removed. This symbol represents the Buddha's footsteps and is not a symbol of hate, but is similar in appearance to the Nazi Swastika.
