Five Stars, No Notes

I love Carley Fortune’s books, but I think this one might just be edging out the top spot in my ranking list. Her writing is lyrical and engaging and just wraps you right in and has you grinning like an idiot the entire way through. This was a really quick read for me because I didn’t want to put it down. I am also not usually someone who highlights quotes in books, but the language was truly so creative and beautiful in some parts I couldn’t resist saving them for later. I still am not over it.
Our Perfect Storm is a childhood friends to lovers romance where you truly fall in love with the characters and are rooting for them throughout the book. There is so much yearning and heartache and I totally ate this up. Frankie is a chaotic spitfire of a character and I found her to be incredibly relatable, and loved how Carley makes her character lovable because of her rough edges, not in spite of it. George is so sweet and patient and pines after Frankie, totally making you swoon. You want to scream at them the entire book to just get together already.
The tropical vacation with a “bucket list” setting gave me almost PWMOV vibes and I loved it. George really throws himself into helping Frankie’s grief, and it’s a very healing process to witness. I also feel as though the unpredictable and chaotic dynamics of human relationships were well portrayed in this story, not only through the intimate relationships but with the extended families as well. I don’t want to share spoilers, but I really appreciated where Frankie and her mom landed in the end, it felt like a real turning point for her. The ending is truly beautiful and feels like a breath of fresh air.
This book just fully wrapped me up in nostalgia and cozy magic and made me smile through the end. I would highly recommend for any Carley Fortune lovers or anyone looking for a feel good read.
